Trailers are bad because they show you too much of a movie. Unless you weren’t interested in the movie but the trailer gets you interested. But I was already interested in seeing Howl’s Moving Castle (mov file). The other bad thing about this particular trailer is that it’s dubbed. I think I’ll see the movie in the theater if the only way to do so is dubbed, but I’d much prefer if someone offers the subtitled version.

In California, a couple visiting an animal sanctuary to celebrate their pet chimp’s thirty-ninth birthday were just about to cut into a birthday cake when two other chimps, presumably jealous, attacked. The chimps, Buddy and Ollie, bit off the sixty-two-year-old man’s fingers, gouged out one of his eyes, ripped off his nose, hacked off a foot and parts of his lips, mutilated his buttocks, and tore off his testicles. Now I know the Terry Schiavo case:
The U.S. Senate subpoenaed Terri Schiavo, a woman who has been in a persistent vegetative state since 1991, to testify before the Health, Education, and Labor Committee. The subpoena was intended to make it impossible for Schiavo to be taken off the feeding tube that allows her to survive; the order, however, was defied by a Florida judge, and the feeding tube was removed. Schiavo then began to die of dehydration. The House and Senate held emergency sessions in order to pass a bill that would transfer the case from state court to federal court. The bill was then signed by President George W. Bush, who had flown in from his ranch in Crawford, Texas, for the occasion.[Wikipedia] Schiavo’s husband, who wants to let her die, wondered why Congress was expending so much energy on the case. “Why doesn’t Congress worry about people not having health insurance?” he asked. “Or the budget? Let’s talk about all the children who don’t have homes.” Schiavo described House Majority leader Tom DeLay, who is leading the fight to reinsert Terri Schiavo’s feeding tube, as a “little slithering snake.”[The Terri Schiavo Case]

A NorthCarolina man was arrested for trying to have both Schiavo’s husband and the judge who denied the request to reinsert Schiavo’s feeding tube killed,[Citizen-Times.com] and a man who wanted to “rescue” Schiavo was arrested for attempting to steal a gun from a Florida gun shop.[AP] [Uh…hey…what’s the operative word in “Right to Life?”]

The best part about getting free VHS tapes at garage sales is that some of them have surprise porn on them after the main feature.

There’s a really big article in the April 9th Globe & Mail that I’m slogging through at work and on the bus. It’s about how the US regime is interfering with scientific research that they deem anti-christian: pretty much anything that has to do with sex, “right to life” issues, etc. There’s lots of shocking information in the article, but I had to share this bit: Dr David Hager was placed on the FDA Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee by our old friend GW Bush. He is the author of a book called “As Jesus Cared for Women” and “is known widely for having refused to prescribe contraception to unmarried women, and recommending Bible-reading to relieve PMS.” Despite the overwhelming support (23 to 4) from the FDA panel to put a new “remarkably safe” day-after contraception pill on the market, the FDA leadership overruled its own panel. Day after day the conservative power in the US finds new ways to outrage me.

I went toothpaste shopping on the weekend. It was very difficult to find a toothpaste that didn’t have some kind of “whitening” action. What’s the deal? Is dark and gloomy teeth really become a problem of late? No. Those marketing snakes. I’ll brush THEIR teeth!

Today was hot dog today at work! We were fed hot dogs and chips and nanaimo bars and sody pop. Not the healthiest of lunches, but it was free. And this time, I didn’t get kicked out for using too much mustard, like I did in grade 5.

Yes, Japanese textbooks should tell it like it was. But if Chinese people are going to boycott all of Japan, they should do it for the right reasons, not because of something that happened 50 years ago. The bayonettes have been lain aside, haven’t they?

Watched a documentary called Outfoxed yesterday and I recommend it to all. It’s about how Fox “Fair and Balanced” news is neither. I knew that Fox was bad, but I didn’t know they were that bad.

I haven’t been watching many movies lately. The last movie I saw in the theater was The Incredibles…or was it Life Aquatic…both of which I loved. I have no interest in seeing Sin City as I didn’t care much for the comic and I hear it’s a faithful adaptation. I will go see Hitchhiker’s Guide and Kung Fu Hustle, and most likely Charlie and the Chocolate Factory unless it gets bad reviews. Other possibles include Revenge of the Sith, Romance & Cigarettes, Batman Begins (though I don’t like the costume). Fantastic Four looks bad so I’ll probably avoid it, though not to the extent of Daredevil I hope. I would be interested in seeing Stephen Tobolowsky’s Birthday Party if it comes to Tinseltown. Anyone know what Kontroll is all about?
