Anthony's Song

So I can actually start moving into my new place as of August 15th. Oh the pain, the pain of it all! My new address is 3890 ALEXANDRA ST VANCOUVER BC V6J 4C4. Isn’t that exciting? This old place may look pretty barren for the birthday auction, but for all the goodies on the block. I think this is going to be the most impressive birthday auction ever in terms of stuff, what with both Stewie and I whittling down our possessions in anticipation of the move.

Stargate

I got a role on the Stargate TV series. They want me for one day of filming (I do have speaking role), but they don’t know what date. The best they can do right now is somewhere between the 17th and 27th. That could screw up my Birthday Auction or the Chilliwack show on the 25th. Pray for me.

It looked like a sasquatch, and Yet I….

When I’m not being subjected to stress, I sleep well and usually don’t remember my dreams. Recently I’ve been remembering tons of dreams, most not worth transcribing (although recently I dreamt that I had created a sexy android to do my whim, who was so lifelike that she even critiqued my performance – I had another one that involved an extremely hairy baby – like sasquatch only sparser and more disturbing), and sleeping poorly. Of course my perennial problem of preferring to stay up watching movies and writing blog entries rather than going to bed doesn’t help, but it’s safe to say that the whole eviction thing is really the culprit here. Stress ruins my sleep. This is why when I book plane flights I try to book them very late at night – if they’re during the day I usually don’t even get to sleep, I’m in such a state. I guess I inherit my worry from my Ma.

Three Flights of Stairs

I’ll be moving my stuff between Sunday the 26th of August and Saturday the 1st. I’d appreciate any help anyone can give me on any of those days. Especially if you have a car. And especially especially if you have access to a larger vehicle that can accommodate a couch, shelving unit(s) and a computer desk. If I can’t find someone with such a thing I’ll have to rent a van/truck. Anyone have any tips on that?

ps – I actually have a dolly/handtruck, which would be useful if there weren’t three flights of stairs in my current place.

Trailers

So, clearly, The Invasion is a remake of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I’ve seen the 78 version with Donald Sutherland, Jeff Goldblum and Leonard Nimoy – definitely worth watching – but I haven’t seen the ’56 version. This newest incarnation seems to be playing up the “no emotion virus” angle rather than the “alien clone” angle.

Just watched the Beowulf trailer – even the real people look fake. So disappointing.

10,000 BC looks somewhat intriguing. I hope it doesn’t follow the all style and no substance ethos of 300 and its ilk. For all you who may think I’m just naysaying modern filmmaking let me point you to the TV series Rome. I borrowed Stephane’s DVD set of the first season and I was really impressed. The series is light on CG, but when they use it, it is to excellent effect – chopping off arms and whatnot. The series goes deep into characters and interrelations, but it definitely has something for the fantasy-lovin’ crowd – rich, full costumes and weapons, architecture, the whole thing. In the extras you can see what lengths they went to to maintain authenticity. There’s a word that doesn’t come up much in these so-called “historically”-based films like 300. And there’s never a shortage of combat, and blood, but it’s not gratuitous – it’s all part of the daily life, along with slavery, prostitution, and not a whiff of the Christo-Judaic morality that’s been injected so unilaterally into our escapism. Like Stephane says, they really don’t pull any punches, and I am so relieved and grateful for that. It’s quality stuff and I recommend you track it down if you can. I haven’t seen the second season yet, but I’ve heard it’s as good as the first.

Meanwhile…
Terence Stamp, Alan Arkin, The Rock and Steve Carell in a new movie adaptation of “Get Smart?” Well I don’t think anyone can fill Don Adams’ shoes but I’m willing to give this the benefit of the doubt.

Okay, okay, okay… brace yourself… Owen Wilson…Angelica Huston, yes… JASON SCHWARTZMAN…bells ringing yet? NEW WES ANDERSON FILM!!! wiiiiiiiiiith Adrien Brody? I like, I like…. It’s called The Darjeeling Limited. September 29.

And here’s the trailer for the movie I’m most looking forward to seeing.

Holy Crap it's August 2007

This month I think is going to be pretty crazy. Two rock shows, a birthday auction, and a move. Yikes.

Scrabble on Facebook – I’m diggin’ it.

Other things I am diggin’:

Myrna Loy all day on the 9th, on Turner Classic Movies. Rowr! Some really good “Thin Man” movies included in the deal. And then on the 10th, Vincent Price marathon, including “The Tingler.”
