Puppy Surprise is back and I have a cold

Puppy Surprise! Puppy Surprise! How many puppies are there inside? Welcome back, Puppy Surprise. You have joined the ranks of Strawberry Shortcake, the Care Bears and My Little Pony as toys from the 80’s that are now back on the market. Now all we need is Baby Luv ‘N Touch, Madballs and Monchichis and it will be like we never left. One thing we didn’t have, thankfully, back in the 80’s was the Mall Madness game, which I saw a commercial for. This is one of the most reprehensible and disgusting things I’ve seen aimed at kids for…well pretty much ever. Shot till you drop! Buy buy buy! CONSUME!!! Nothing like instilling good consumerism in people at a young age.

  1. Oh, geeze… Puppy Surprise always made me kinda sick. And remember that pregnant Barbie? That was not right, either. It’s just a bit macabre to sell things with smaller versions of themselves inside. Except the Oogy-Boogey full of bugs. And I think that was supposed to be a bit macabre. And those matroishka dolls – those are pretty cool. Now, Monchichis I can get behind… I still remember the little song:

“Monchichi, monchichi, oh so soft and cuddly.
Put their thumb in their mouth, it’s really neat,
Fun to wiggle their little feet. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Happy, Happy Monchichi!”

Now that I look at it, that song is pretty lame, though it expresses just about everything you can do with the little guys. Not much in the way of entertainment there. I had a clip-on one: you squeezed its back and it would grab your jacket or backpack or whatever. Kids don’t clip enough things on these days.
