June: Acts of Violence Comic Anthology

I’ve finally been given the go-ahead to announce the comic project I was working on for so long. The story by Critical Hit Comics’ Todd Ireland & Kevin Leeson* called “Reggie-Town”will be one of four stories in the anthology “Acts of Violence” – in fact it’s the longest story of four. The book is going to be in the April previews so order this sucker from your local comic book store and pick it up in June.

Here are a couple of preview pages which unfortunately do not show the lettering by the ever-perspicacious Ed “New Reliable Press” Brisson.

*(Those of you who remember my covers from Outnumbered #5 and #6 will recall they were published by CHC)

Click on the pics below to make them LARGE. And yes, Aaron and Chris, my handsome and talented models of users and pushers, I’ll have a copy for each of you!

Exploded View launch at Ayden Gallery

For the Spaceship Zero lovers among you, I plan on having some original art hanging at this art show to promote the book that the SSZ comic story will be in. See below for details, and CLICK HERE for more information on the comic itself:

PRESS RELEASE
Exploded View Saturday March 6 | Launch Party at Ayden Gallery | 7pm

Vancouver, Feb, 16, 2010
For immediate transmission – Cloudscape Comics is pleased to announce the launch of their fourth publication, Exploded View. A science fiction anthology featuring twenty-five artists, all current or former residents of Vancouver, Canada. This book showcases the broad range of talent in the comics artist community. Notable contributors include Camilla d’Errico, who has been making waves with her manga influenced paintings in and outside of Vancouver, and is the artist for notable titles such as “Burn”, “Tanpopo”, and “Sky Pirates”; Children’s book Illustrator Scot Ritchie; Angela Melick, creator of the acclaimed “Wasted Talent” Webcomic; John Christmas, the artist on the recently released “Barack the Barbarian”; Jonathon Dalton, creator of “Lords of Death and Life” and “A Mad Tea-Party”; Edison Yan, whose work can be
seen on “Scribblenauts” on the Nintendo DS; Colin Upton, who has been pioneering mini- comics in Vancouver since 1985; Local Rocker, actor, and Illustrator Toren Atkinson; and Jordyn Bochon, a contributor to the independent comics anthology “You Ain’t No Dancer”. The group includes established artists, underground cartoonists, web comic creators, animators, illustrators, and manga artists all working together. Their focus is on telling meaningful, intelligent stories through the medium of comics.

This book represents the Cloudscape comics collective’s most ambitious project to date, with a huge roster of talented artists and their highest production quality. Motivated by a desire to see their work in print, Cloudscape is moving ahead without an established publisher or outside funding, raising the money it needs exclusively from the artists within the group.

Cloudscape will be launching their new book at the Ayden gallery in Tinseltown, Vancouver on March 6th at 7pm. Most of the artists will be in attendance to sign autographs. This will be your first opportunity to purchase this fantastic new book.

WWFJ – Death Wattle

Click to make big

Here’s the newest (rough) colour sketch for the nefarious and wholly nasty villain Death Wattle

Earlier Version

He will be featured in the World Wildlife Federation of Justice

supplement for Mutants & Masterminds published by Atomic Overmind Press, which means you can read his secret origin, and compare his stats and power level against other WWFJ characters. And if you’re a player of Mutants & Masterminds the roleplaying game you can pit him against your superhero group. Sure…why not?

He is the arch-nemesis of Astromandrill, in case you were wondering, which makes him a fearsome foe indeed! He is also the leader of the Flock of Evil.

JHZ

I’m not sure if I’m ready to tell you what this is for. But I can tell you that I’m having a lot of fun with it. This is a very preliminary sketch. Stylistic inspirations: Mike McMahon, Jamie Hewlett, Bruce Timm, and yes, Frank Miller (hate his writing, love his drawing).

Though it doesn’t look it now, there will be clothes on everyone. Probably something punkapocalyptic. Big army boots, converse shoes, raggedy blood-stained tanktops, choker collars, metal wristbands, that sort of thing. Hardcore big-busted gore-soaked butch lesbians kickin’ ass.

I’ve blocked it out with a lot of heavy blacks and color-coded the various figures for clarity. I like some more than others. My fave is the girl on the far right which is supposed to be pink but my scanner sucks hoof. I like the idea of the chainsaw but it’s actually a bit distracting shoved down in the bottom corner.

Another direction would be to give Jesus (yes that’s right) his sweaty crown of thorns and instead of the chainsaw he’d be wielding a huge wooden cross. I feel as though that would be some degree of awesome, and that feeling of awesome grows even as I finish typing this sentence.

Spaceship Zero Comic Page 5

At long last here is page 5 of the Spaceship Zero comic, sans lettering. If everything goes as planned the full five pages, which is a prequel to the story as laid out in the SSZ roleplaying game and the album Spaceship Zero: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, will appear in Cloudscape Comics‘ newest anthology, “Exploded View” (cover by Camilla D’errico)

I’m having professional comic letterer Ed Brisson redo all of my unprofessional lettering from the first 4 pages.
