Continuing on through Saturday in Alberta… did you know that they have a pirate ship in the West Edmonton Mall? I didn’t!!! Where were you when I was drawing all those illustrations for Freeport books?

They had a place in the Food Fair called Butter Chicken & Naan Stop, but wouldn’t it be more clever to call it Naan Stop Butter Chicken? Get it? Huh?

Anyway, we drove on into the wee hours and arrived at Katie’s at 3am. Lately I’ve been drinking the Starbuck’s bottled frapaccino drinks you can get at gas stations for all my bleary-eyed wee morn driving needs, you know, for those nights where you’re tired enough to mistake domestic cats for coyotes.

On Sunday morning we went to the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel in Saskatoon for breakfast buffet and I met two of Deanna’s four siblings, and assorted nieces and nephews. At the University of Saskatoon they had some exhibits in the sciencey-type area.

In this one, Deanna hopes the dome is a pop-o-matic and that when she pushes down on it all the buildings will jumble about.

As many of you know, Deanna and I are moving in together.
I already have phone service with Rogers.

Hey here’s some of my voice work and some of Stewie’s video game SWORD OF THE STARS.

On Friday we picked up the car from Budget and after picking up $19 worth of candy from Candy Aisle we headed onto the Coquihalla. The toll booths have been bulldozed by the way because, you know, election year, so expect the upkeep on highways and transit to get worse. Many businesses were suspiciously closed at 4:50pm in downtown Kamloops so our options were Boston Pizza or The Commodore Cafe for linner. While we ate a German jazz singer set up her new speaker system and incessantly tested it out murmering “hhm hmm doo doo doo” into the mic overtop of whatever was already playing over the radio on the PA.

If you need to spend the night in Valemount for any reason, The Chateau Continental is nice. Our theory was that whatever had the most expensive sounding name would be the cheapest. It was $90 for a two queen bed room, though there were only 3 channels on the TV.

Breakfast is over at 10am in the restaurant next door but they made a basic breakfast especially for us, so we tipped well. Going through Jasper we saw some stuff, like this:

I have a little plastic uintatherium. In my D&D Freeport game, I used it as a miniature for a random circus creature that was let loose by the party’s (now dead) nemesis. Imagine my surprise on seeing a life-size one at the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller Alberta!

This was taken at PAX. The tabletop roleplaying games were housed in a completely different building across the street from the main convention center. As you walked into the foyer old E.T. (Eye Tyrant) greeted you. He looks cranky but really he’s just thirsty, so I gave him some of my water.
