Time Flies

January is already more than half over. I don’t feel like I’ve wasted it, but I do feel like I want to try some new, different things very soon. Any ideas?

  1. Go find a cop or fire fighter or a nurse or a teacher and say “thanks”. Volunteer at a soup kitchen for a night. Offer to run D&D games for street kids at Convenant House. Tell Marlo you love her again and again, because that never gets boring. Spend a day only speaking Chinese or Japanese or any other language. Take new ways to familar places, like work or Marlo’s. Ask those you know how they want to be remembered so you don’t have to struggle with it when it happens and it will happen, trust me.

I hold you in very high regard as someone I look up to and admire. I look forward to hearing about the “different” things you get up to in the next few weeks.

  2. Thanks Mr Beck! Those are kind words from a kind feller. And very thoughtful suggestions. I must say when I posted the question I was thinking of less profound suggestions, like going to the community center and taking a free class. One of the catalysts for the post was I was invited to an impromptu tobogganing thingamajigger on a mountain on Sunday, but I already had plans and coulnnt’ go, and that made me sad because I haven’t been on a snowy mountain since I was a kid. I’m not into snowboarding or skiing though -unless it was dirt cheap.

  3. You should come Snowtubing with us next time. It was awesome! And it turns out that the “mandatory snow tires” were a complete lie so we didn’t need to take the expensive shuttle bus. It’s $14 to tube for 2 hours (and if you can find someone with an entertainment book there’s usually a 2 for 1 coupon), well worth it IMHO because it was AWESOME! Next time I’ll drive and you guys can join us.

  4. i went ‘toobin’ as i like to call it last weekend and i think you’d like it plenty. if you go to seymour (where i went) they even have a rope tow that your tube clips on to so you don’t have to walk back up the hill! they say $14 for 2 hours but you can go longer. they never check.

    OR you could go
-hit some balls at a driving range
-spend the evening in a hotel with Marlo and order roomservice and steal some towels
-eat something from every bulk bin at a large grocery store
-make an ethnically themed meal for dinner one night for you and Marlo (and any other guest) wear outfits from that country/area

just a few ideas off the top of my head
