Go-Rilla

Here’s a colour study of G0-Rilla.

go-rilla-72dpi

That was my initial colour idea. Light blue and white.

Here’s some alternates I just screwed around with:

go-rilla-red-grey

Grey with red trim.

go-rilla-red-gold1

My favourite superhero colour combo – red and gold.

go-rilla-purples

Two kinds of purple.

I have my favourites. Please offer your thoughts, and if you feel like screwing around in photoshop here’s a blank:

For Those of You Who Missed Cthulhupalooza

Not counting the special green shirts we made for the volunteers (black one shown here also available on my eBay site), here is the Cthulhupalooza-specific swag! Jones Soda was awesome to send us up these special Thickets pop bottles, which we gave out, raffled, and prized away.

A closer look.

These two images were taken by Adam of adampwsmith.com fame. He also helped out amazingly at Cthulhupalooza lugging equipment around and being generally useful. The photo on the left was from the Media Club, the photo on the right is from PAX.

A couple of Spaceship Zero-specific designs! SpaceCorp Reconstituted Space Effluent and the album cover by Chris Woods, logo design by Bob Fugger.

Colour Me Green Apple; the cover of our album The Shadow Out of Tim as photographed by Taylor Latour and designed by Chris Stewart; Cthulhupalooza logo drawn by me and designed by Josh Pratt.

The 1.5″ square pin.

The 1″ round pin.

World Wildlife Federation of Justice Comic #2

So the next WWFJ comic will be only 1 page. It will be a sendup of those old Hostess Fruit Pie ads from the comics of yore. It is going to feature zombies and that nefarious of demonic ruminants, Elk Diablo. The only thing I am having trouble with deciding is who should be the hero. Here’s my short list:

Go-Rilla

Shaolin Monkey

Haardvark

Tasmanian Daredevil

also considering Invinci-Bull.

Thoughts?

It is a Pretty Sweet Raygun

I’m always leery of art contests. Usually it’s a publisher’s scheme to not have to pay artists: “Hey, everyone send us a drawing of a scantily clad barbarian princess and we’ll pick the one we like the best and that one person will get their drawing published in a book and even get a copy of the book!!!” (Professional illustrators get all this plus money to live.)

Duncan sent me a link to [this contest] and I’d love to have that raygun but I wonder what “give perpetual permission to VP and GH to use the images without compensation” could be construed to mean in a court of law?

But, imagining I did submit, which of these two should I pick?

Historyonics

Oh, by the way, Wednesday is the last day of the Historyonics exhibit if you want to see some of my original comic book art hanging on a all (actually also in the window!). You can buy copies of the comic there but, uh, I have copies too and I actually make money when you buy them off me – so do so now and often! Don’t forget Hexmas is coming up in just a few short weeks.

Yes those are CTHULHUPALOOZA buttons!

Historyonics / Rhinosferatu Launch Party

OOPS – THE DATE IS WRONG. STANDBY FOR UPDATE.

Historyonics is the name of the comic anthology that the origin of Rhinosferatu is appearing. The books have been printed and the launch party is [DATE FORTHCOMING] at the Jem Gallery on Broadway at Main St. I’ll have my original artwork up on the walls in case you haven’t already seen them.

Hellboy VS Rhinosferatu

As you read this, I am in Portland at the HPL Film Festival, where Mike Mignola is a guest. I really like Mignola’s art, and have since Cosmic Odyssey and Rocket Raccoon. I liked cool before it was cool to like cool. I set aside an evening to ignore my girlfriend and draw this picture, which I am going to give to Mike. Secretly I hope that he will draw a picture of Rhinosferatu for me, but I’ll be jazzed if he accepts the drawing regardless.
