For those of you who don’t know, Dr. Timothy Vess is the protagonist for the narrative of our album “The Shadow Out of Tim”
Whats up man? My name is Timothy Vess and I just want to say thanks for the infamy. I was checkin shit on the web and there it was… an album with my name all in it. I picked it up(yes im the one who bought it), and it was pretty good. Keep it up and you might even sell 2 cd’s…lol.
Anyways, just keep rockin out with your cock out! Tim
The Dark Tale Weaver 1/4 page description: Spooky up-lit shot of a storyteller engrossed in telling a terrifying tale to a few listeners. Storyteller may be “into” their story enough to look a bit crazed.
Models: Montana (storyteller), Jasmine and Talia (audience) Costume: cloaks and so forth. Do we still have that furry cloak from this photo that Rob took of Montana some time ago? It’s almost perfect but we have to change the lighting to appear like it’s coming from the campfire.
Dark Dreams 1/4 page.
description: A person wakes up from a terrify dream. They are frightened, and covered in sweat.
Model – Talia (preferred) Costume – some kind of night shirt, with long sleeves. Nothing dark. Doesn’t need to be slinky in any way, just something that could remotely pass as period appropriate. See here: https://www.historicalemporium.com/store/006001.php?
Lighting notes – would like to get something dramatic like the thumbnail from a movie that I put into the top left corner of my work-in-progress below.
The Haunted Place – HALF PAGE
description: Pick one or more of the suitable entries from this story. Can definitely have a teen slasher movie feel to the drama (lots of terror, no gore).
Model: tbd Costume: tbd
I get to choose from a long list, I’ve singled out a few I like below – let me know if something jumps out at you and we can discuss!
OPTION 1 – character ran out of the building screaming, flailing about themself as if plagued by stinging insects. OPTION 2 – A massive claw reached through a wall and dragged their friend back into it, passing into someplace else. Immediately afterwards, the wall was solid. OPTION 3- character cowering in a corner all night, watching a steady stream of spectral shapes parade across the floor, flapping, flowing, hopping, or simply walking from a glowing portal in one wall, to a similar portal across the room from it. In the morning they had visibly aged a dozen years. OPTION 4- friend’s face literally melted away, flesh sloughing off it like hot wax, revealing a porcelain doll like visage, with fangs like a viper fish. When it lunged for The Character, it tripped, smashing porcelain and fangs into shards (this could have two characters) OPTION 5 -One by one, floating candles appeared. They burned without giving off heat or light beyond their own illumination. They flocked together like swirling clouds of curious moths investigating the intruders, then chose one of them settling onto their victim, who burst into lightless, heatless flame. Moments later, another floating candle joined the cloud and they all moved on. (this could have two or possibly 3 characters)
The Abandoned Building. 1/4 page
description: Exterior shot of one or people approaching what looks like a classic haunted mansion. The building can be mostly silhouette, with the top elements overlapping the graphic bar at top. Night scene with edge-lighting etc.
Model: anyone Costume: d&d appropriate garb (the work in progress pic below is not correct costume) Props: lantern! Need to match light more or less. Might need to take the photos outside while it’s dark, weather permitting.
War Mask 1/4 page
description: An elf displaying strong emotion, which causes a tribal war masque tattoo to show on their face.
Model: Jasmine (preferred) Costume: cloak or whatever. We won’t see much of it Lighting notes – something dramatic, but don’t want much shadow covering up the tattoo area
I Talk to the Trees. 1/4 page
description: Angry Tree Lords raging at elves running in terror. Call them ents, call them treants, they are massive, mobile tree-like beings who appear to be more quick to anger than good ol’ ents. Or maybe they just have a really long-standing grudge with these elves.
Models – probably none
Unicorns being Unicorns 1/4 page
Image: A unicorn standing over the body of a dead elf, it’s horn bloody and threatening to attack anyone else nearby.
Model – probably none. I already have something from my archives
Journaled Madness
Model – none, I’ve already got what I need for this
I was a very special guest on the new episode of Speedway Squad, which for those who don’t know is a free podcast by Chris, Jordan and Bob, all of whom are or were in the Thickets.
You must have iTunes to get the episode. No I’m not sure why they don’t have a regular RRS feed on www.speedwaysquad.com – perhaps you should email the boys (or comment here) and make that request if for some weird reason you don’t have the Tunes of i.
The past week it’s been too icy to bike to work so I’ve been taking the skytrain from Renfrew to Broadway Station and from there the 99 to Willow. Everyone else in the world (possibly those who may have driven over a certain arsoned bridge) have had the same idea and there are lines similar to those when it snowed for days on end. Now for those who don’t know, this city is decent for bus etiquette most of the time – people form three lines where the bus stops, as shown in the diagram below. As you can see, (a) is where the bus stops normally and there’s a line for each door you can go in. The green line (middle door) and the orange line (back door) get a little hazy sometimes but things usually run smooth.
Now you knew there was going to be a ‘but’ and in fact there are a couple, both of which happened this morning.
When the bus looks full, the lines stop moving in. Except for about a dozen or so people way back in line who are assholes and more important than anyone else and can’t believe that the line has stopped moving. They run out of line to cram themselves into an already crowded bus.
This happened when I was close to the front of the green line, with maybe 8 or so people in front of me. Worse still, check out bus (b) just behind bus (a). Now the #99 runs every 5 minutes or so at this time of day so you never have to wait very long for the next one. Except the driver in bus (b) decides not to wait until bus (a) gets out of the way and opens her doors. Chaos ensues and people run helter skelter out of all of the lines to get into this second bus. I’ve actually fallen for this trick before and it makes for a nightmare ride, not to mention you run the risk of losing your place in line if you can’t fit in bus (b). So I just stayed in line and caught the next one, but because of that impetuous agent of chaos lady I had to wait for three buses.
Another experiment has more or less played out to its conclusion. When I made up my character for 4th Edition D&D, I designed him to be a non-combatant. I wanted to see how the new rules would handle that. I gave him maximum points in Diplomacy and spent all my feats on languages.
As a diplomat, he didn’t fare very well, but I’m not sure it’s entirely 4th edition’s fault.
It was my choice to be a thief. This was probably not the best class for a diplomat.
I didn’t show up regularly to the game, and as such missed some of the best opportunities for diplomacy
I didn’t put in the time to properly learn the rules, so someone else leveled up my character for me.
It may not have been the best campaign for a diplomat, but by the same token I can think of very few scenarios that really are geared for diplomacy, and so I think that D&D by it’s nature really is a “kill them and take their stuff” game. And I knew that was true from previous editions going in, but I still felt it was worth the time to do this test to see if any paradigms had changed in the new edition. The biggest downside unfortunately was that the rest of the group had to deal with a character who didn’t fit in. So, K’hlwch Dodsworth Smelt, R.I.P.
On to the next character, whatever and whenever that may be.
On a semi-related note, one of the things I’ve found about 4th edition is that leveling up happens more often. For a guy who has a hard time keeping track of the myriad of powers that a character has, I found that before I could familiarize myself with my character, he’s already changed.
